I would recommend getting on a dhow trip and going up the creek - its a great way to see the city and you can sort out the price before you go.

There is a Big Red Bus company operating and I have heard its not a bad tour.

Jumeirah Beach is nice and worth going to. If you want to go inside the Burj Al Arab hotel they will charge you but its redeemed against anything that you buy in the hotel.

Wander round the new Dubai Mall and be in time to watch the fountains as they really are amazing.

There are public buses but I dont know the time table. Taxis are not that expensive and maybe you could find a friendly one that you could hire for half a day.

Most people come for the shopping - Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Mall, Ibn Bhatuta as well as the gold souk and the diamond souk.

Eating and drinking is also a popular thing with Friday Brunch at some swish hotel being the norm - but its not cheap. Be prepared to pay London prices for food and drink if you eat in the hotels. I prefer to go more local - Lebanese, Indian or Chinese - all locally available and cheap but you wont be able to get alcohol as this is only available in restaurants attached to hotels (with a couple of exceptions).

Definitely try and go to Hatta Fort or if you are able, then Al Ain is lovely and go up the mountain there (Jebel Hafeet). You could go north from Dubai up to Oman (Mussandam) and do a dolphin cruise.

Not sure when you are intending on coming, but its really hot at the momoment and very humid. Day temperatures are around 45 degrees with humidity high. It will start to get cooler towards the end of October!! over 10 years ago
