It is possible, but you will not have more than 2 hours. I have been through Dubai airport on many occassions, the quickest I cleared immigration was 45 minutes after landing, the longest time 2.5 hours, depends on how many planes are in at the same time. Also, if you have to get your visa upon arrival and do the eye scan this will take additional time. When you check back into Dubai airport it is a minimum 30 minutes from point of check-in to departure gate. Again this depends on how busy the terminal is, i.e., number of departures close to you as the immigration queue can be extremely long and is not always fully manned. I would suggest taking the metro as it is quicker, particularly during rush hour than a taxi, if you purchase a 24 hour ticket you do not need to know the exact stops as it is valid at all. I suggest you identify exactly what you want to see in order that you can review the metro map and see which stop is best. The trains run about every 15 minutes, you may need to change stations. Of course taxis are available, but again depending on time of day there can be a long queue although this progresses quite quickly. Personally, with only five hours transit time, I would not leave the airport. over 5 years ago

While it is possible, I personally would not attempt it. The quickest I have ever been through immigration was 45 minutes, the longest 2.5 hours. In addition, if you have to get your (transit) visa at the airport, or go through eyescan this can also take time. When you re-enter the airport, assuming you already have your boarding card, this can also be a lengthy process. The size of the airport is one factor, as well as the number of planes departing. Sometimes the immigration desks are fully staffed, at others, there is a scarcity of immigration officers and the queues can be very long. If you do decide to leave you may want to use the metro. I would recommend getting the 24 hour ticket which is quite inexpensive and will let you get off or on at any stop. Taxis are available, but again, depending on number of arrivals, there may be a long queue although this one does tend to move quickly. I would suggest that you identify exactly where you want to visit, a mall, the gold souk, other point of interest (most points of interest will tell you which Metro stop they are near) and check the Dubai Metro map to see if there is a stop nearby. I do prefer the metro as it is often faster than a taxi, particularly during peak traffic times. over 5 years ago

I would do it depends on arrival date and time, please keep notice you only can spend 1 or 2 hours max in downtown, you need to take a cap and you will pay around 10 us dollar. don't ask the cap driver to drive to downtown, tell him deira city center over 5 years ago
