From May to around October/November, the weather is extremely hot and humid. The nicest times are November/December and April/May as the weather is warm and the nights are not yet scorching.

Saying that, all of Dubai is air conditioned - hotels, bars, restaurants, car parks!

How long would you need? How long is a piece of string. What do you want to do in Dubai? There are some museums and galleries; you could do some adventure things like going into the desert or kite surfing off the beach; you could relax at a luxury hotel and indulge in spa treatments etc.

For me, a day in Dubai and I have had enough! The traffic, the noise, the building works, the sand cloud..yuck!! I prefer sleepier Abu Dhabi.

Dubai is a not too bad base for doing other things.

Driving to Al Ain and going up Jebel Hafieet Mountain; doing an overnight camp into the desert; going to wadis; travelling through to Oman etc etc.

Dubai is not cheap to visitors. The cost of food and drink is roughly the same as London, for example. If you are happy to eat locally rather than in hotels, then it is much cheaper.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are also hosts to some exciting events, and maybe you want to tie up your visit with one of those : F1, various concerts such as the Killers etc. almost 11 years ago

@Christine - the food options are huge and range from a very cheap and humble but amazing curry to a super high class and expensive dinner in a luxurious hotel. You have options at all levels and cuisines from around the world.

There are all the usual Western outlets - McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Tim Hortons etc as well as international chefs. The supermarkets also stock a huge variety of western goods. The prices are higher than you would normally pay back home.

When you ask about a poor person, I guess it depends on what you mean by poor. You have to remember that the UAE is populated by ex-pats and a huge (probably largest) community of which are the immigrant workers who are building and constructing the cities. These guys will be low paid workers who live in camps and are bussed in and out of their places of work. So yes, I guess poor people can and do live here but would suggest that its an awful existance for them - I admire them.
