I am looking for recommendations on the best company and location to sail from on a day or two sailing trip in Turkey in late Sept/early Oct
I am looking for a quality tour company to purchase a short sailing trip (1+ days) on the Western Coast of Turkey. I am also requesting the best location to look for sailing trips and the easiest Port to leave out of.
As far as companies go, talk to other travellers in Turkey and get their advice. You don't need to book ahead for September/October. All the coastal cities have their pros and cons. I "sailed" 4 days from Fethiye southeast to a port near Olympos, with an overnight stop in Kas. Was great. But note that while the gulets have sails, they motor most of the way. Your captain might turn off the motor for an hour or two one afternoon, but that's it. about 6 years ago
V-Go travel in Fethiye is easy to deal with. You should realise that no one sleeps in their cabins as it is far too hot and airless. Sleeping on deck, one must put up with the boat's night noises, like cables clanging inside the hollow, aluminium masts, all bloody night. Try to grab a spot in the stern sitting/eating area. If you are prone to seasickness, strong recommendation to begin taking the pills while the sea is calm as they won't stay down once the sickness starts. But our 4 days were largely calm, barring one rocky morning when I lost my chops several times and almost asked to be put ashore. Interesting trip but once was enough. about 6 years ago
