Try heading south to the next beach Kata for a day. Hire a surf-board or just lay out on a deck chair.
If you get to the south end of Kata, try the Boat House for lunch. One of the best Thai/international restaurant in Phuket. You can also do a 1 or 2 day cooking class at the Boat House which is excellent.
If you choose the 1 day option take the 2nd day as thats when you learn most of the main dishes.

There's not a huge amount in Karon itself apart from the beach, it's a lovely beach though. Right now it's quite quiet so you'll have a couple of miles of pristine white sand pretty much to yourself/ You could use the facilities at the Hilton (Pools, Tennis, Gym, Bar's) for a day fee which is about half way down Karon beach towards Kata.
There is a Wat or Temple which has a market a couple of days a week which is on the main road from Karon Circle to Chalong (Patak Road) which is worth a visit.
At the southern most end of Karon as you go into Kata there is a Mini Golf actuvity with a Dinosaur Theme which is actually pretty good.
About 10 minutes drive north is the main tourist area of Patong, between th 2 there is so interesting Nightlife to check out. There is the late, late open air nightclub called Safari where everyone goes after the main bars and clubs shut. They have some pretty strange offerings such as "Dunk The Lady Boy" and a climbing wall along with a huge screen you can sometimes watch sports on. There is also the Phuket Fantasea which is also apparently well worth the visit although I havent made it down yet.
You can do fishing trips from Chalong Pier, about 15 minutes drive, or for the nicest beach in Southern Phuket, head to Nai Harn, along the waythere are a couple of Elephant Trek / Sanctuarys.
Enjoy and e4mail me if you want anything specific or more details. I live in Kata so just next door. over 10 years ago
Hi - We stayed in Karon Oct 08 & are heading back again this October. Can you please give us some information on the following -
* Fishing trips (join in not out right charter) my partners wanting to go on a day fishing trip with his brother. Any recommendations on the best company?
*Karon Temple Markets - we hear it's for the locals, can you tell us what type of things they sell and are they only operating on Tuesday & Saturday nights?
*Can you recommend any good cheap restuarants in Karon & Kata? We love the Red Onion... can you give us any info on the Ska Bar and when the fire dancing is on?
Appreciate your help
