To do: temples and lots of them. Also Sunday night walking market. Chiang Dao Elephant Camp.
To eat: anything. I enjoyed Khao-Mao Khao-Fang restaurant because it's on the water and is very good. over 6 years ago

Don't know what it is called but ate the small live shrimp in the food. Very interesting, they jump in your mouth until you crunch them. Must be fresh because they are alive until you eat them. Worth doing! over 6 years ago

Chiangmai has loads of fantastic temples to wander around, but make sure you head up to Wat Prathat Doi Suithep which is high on a hill overlooking the city. If you are there in the rain take care as the courtyard is all polished marble, but is is very atmospheric! over 6 years ago

Agree with Original Nomad. There are many pretty temples, my favorite is Doi Suitep. It is on top of a mountain overlooking Chiang Mai. Very pretty and cool on top, wonderful views. You can get a songtow near the base of the mountain to take you up. Ask at your hotel, they can tell you a good way to get there.

One of the things the Thai love to do is hang out in a waterfall. This is very popular when it is hot. Find a waterfall (there are many nearby), wade in and find a nice place to relax with the water flowing over you. I have done this many times. Thai will invite you to share their food and booze. Very fun. over 6 years ago
