I decided that I'm going to travel to Thailand with a carry on and buy clothes there.

Great call! I did that on my last trip to Thailand a few years ago. As all I wanted was basic and cheap, I headed to Kao San Road to buy stuff- lots of shops and stalls with cheap clothes.

I also hit the shops/malls in Siam Plaza & Central World. The side streets aroundSiam Square also have tones of clothing stores that are very easy on the wallet. almost 7 years ago

Ugh. Avoid Kao San Road. That is where all the tourists go; it is the most expensive place to buy in Thailand. A hat that cost me 40 baht at a small street market there was being sold for 100 baht. They would not even bargain. You might want to simply go to a Lotus/Tesco (it is a large department store like Wal-mart in the USA). If you have time, price things there then go to a local street market. People there will haggle over prices with you. It is fun. When you haggle though, always smile. almost 7 years ago
