I'll have a trip to Thailand soon, and I want to keep in touch with my family.
I have bought some Skype credit in my account so they can buy a subscription for Thailand calls.
I want to buy a SIM card for my phone in Thailand, is it possible?
And if my family will call me from Skype in the USA, it'll be considered as international call?
I bought a cell phone and sim card in Thailand. The simple Nokia GSM phone cost 1100 Baht, the SIM card was 49 Baht and I loaded it with 500 Baht. It is a TRUE Mobile SIM card, and if you dial 00600+1+area code + number you can call the USA for one Baht per minute. Good quality and cheap price. There is a True concession in the Bangkok airport. I bouht a SIM card there once, but I don't know if they sell any phones. If you bring a phone from the US, make sure it is an unlocked QQuad Band GSM phone, and you will be fine. Almost all US cell phones are "locked," and only a few specific ones are GSM. about 10 years agoAnswered by John via WorldNomads.com
Yeah like John said, if you bring a phone from the States the most important thing is that it is compatible with the type of mobile network in Thailand.
The phone will also have to be "unlocked", which means that you can use it on other phone networks (more than just T-Mobile, AT&T etc) about 10 years ago
