I came there some years ago, it was safe. At night you can go out but not too late and go to crowed places. It will be safer about 2 years ago

Definitely it's safe. Maybe not in bigger cities to go alone at night but I spend a majority of my time in Chiang Mai up north and it's the second biggest city yet I could walk outside alone no problem. It's very busy and Thai people are particularly nice and non confrontational. As with anywhere, be careful about back street that make you feel nervous. That rule works for any place you hang out alone in. But in Thailand never ever did I feel unsafe. (Except maybe Soi cowboy in Bangkok which is the red light district section of the city and I felt more uncomfortable than unsafe because there were a lot of young prostitutes trying to hit on old men and it just creeped me out) about 2 years ago

It's usually pretty safe. It's also easy to meet other travelers in your hostel and travel with them for while. This page about how to travel safely might help anyone who would like to know more about how to avoid scams and other safety issues during your travels: http://outofyourcomfortzone.net/travel-safety/ about 2 years ago

Safe. Use common sense as if you were in any country or even in your own home town. Small denominations of money, no flashy jewelry, be wary of pickpockets, Thailand is just like any other country you visit. about 2 years ago

I live in Phuket. Its safer than Western countries all hours of the night anywhere you want to walk. Women walk home from Bangla Road at all hours unmolested by Thais or farangs . Thais are as honest as the day is long. Yes they expect you to barter heavily for goods, if you pay the first price they ask, more fool you . But assaults or robberies by Thais are extremely rare and you are more likely to find they would run to assist you if bothered by anyone. almost 2 years ago

Safe but never use the taxis that park outside hotels. Only use taxis coming down the street with the taxi meter. The hotel parked taxis will take you where they have business and not where you want to go. They assume you will not know the area. over 1 year ago
