I have prior to the tsunami and it was beautiful... so spacious without the crowds. We are going back in March next year and contemplated staying there as they have great deals with the stay pay deals. Not sure where you are from but check out www.qantas.com.au for the best prices that I could find for that particular property. It has a small private beach also, but this is a fair walk from the rooms. The pool access rooms are bloody awesome although obviously not suitable for those with kids. over 9 years ago
I stayed 9 nights at this resort 5 years ago with 30+ friends travelling as a common interest group.
The resort was excellent. We were all extremely happy with the rooms, the facilities and the dining. The 3 huge pool pool areas are amazing.
The only downside is the distance from the heart of town. Although it was only a 10 minute drive we found that some tuk tuk drivers were reluctant to take us there late at night from Bangla Rd area as there was almost no chance of a return fare for them. The road between the resort and the main Patong beach area is steep and winding and I wouldn't consider walking anywhere much from the resort (although there are some restaurants within walking distance). However the resort has an open air bus/cattle truck that will take guests to/from the sister hotel (Merlin Patong) in town. At that time it was running every hour on the hour daytime only. At night you will need to catch taxis which are cheap and abundant out on the street opposite resort about 9 years ago
I stayed here once, it was a good resort but the transport from / to the resort to say Patong etc is a big problem thanks to the Tuk Tuks. I often stay at the Holiday Inn Patong which is a great resort, beach across the road 1 minute. No need to go anywhere if you stay here. about 9 years ago
Patong Merlin is just to isolated, it is a great resort if you just want to stay and not venture about to much. Try somewhere without the transport Tuk Tuk problems like Kata and Karon. You could stay there but as long as you do not like paying a lot of money for transport esp.... at night. The problem is the Tuk Tuks cannot get a return fare back to the point of where they pick you up from, that's just the rules! almost 9 years agoAnswered by John Cahill via WorldNomads.com
