Lots. Thailand's a great place, the Thais are mostly wonderful and the place is beautiful, exciting and exhilarating. Less than 10% of people who visit get into some sort of trouble that requires a claim on travel insurance (so better than 90% chance you'll be fine).
To find out what could be trouble for you - and therefore how to avoid it - go here.
Read the coup stuff at the top, then scroll down to the "World Nomads survival guide".
If you take note of that stuff, and act accordingly, you'll have a wonderful time.

Gotta b more worried about other tourists than thai ppl...
B careful if you renting motor scooters go slower than you think is safe, take gastro pills as you will get sick every1 does...barter on everything chop everything at least 50% and thats about right...the standard stuff on going out to drink at the bars at its the same everywhere b careful when out drinking...keep everything of value locked in safe and only carry the money you need, hotel staff WILL steal money if its left out of safe...put phones ipods and even ipads into safe cause you wont get anywhere if they are stolen...police are not helpful over 3 years ago
Thailand is very well set up for tourists and if you keep on the tourist trail you will have no problems. Stay in hostels, they are very cheap and if there are 8 of you, you could get the whole dorm or stay in rooms with 3-4 beds. If you stay in hotels you won't meet anyone, you want to be with people in your age. Hostels are also very well equiped with tour desks, they will organise your bus tickets, trains, someone will come and pick you up, day tours etc. If you've never been to a third world country eat at places where there are other tourists eating. I have only ever been sick once in all the times I have been there. But if you take lots of gastro powders, just mix that in with your bottle of water if you get a dodgy. Its a great place and one of the safest countries. Have fun. over 3 years ago
