Me and my roommate are going to be traveling through SE Asia for a few months, starting off in Thailand, then to Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, back to Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia before making our way over to Australia and NZ and then down to French Polynesia. We have all of our tickets booked leading up to us arriving to Bangkok but are wondering if it will be cheaper and easier to pre book the rest of our airfare in advance or if we should look around and just try to by tickets a little bit in advance while we are abroad? We're just trying to figure out the cheapest options!

We went to Thailand last year and sorted all our internal flights beforehand. What a mistake because when you get to a place you may hate it and want to move on but can't because you've pre booked tickets, or you may want to stay longer. We're going to Malaysia in January and have bought tickets to Kuala Lumpur, booked hotel for a few nights there and also hotel in Langkawi and will also book the internal flight but that's all we're pre booking. Have a great trip. about 5 years ago

If your dates are concrete then you'd probably be best pre-booking. But as Elsa said, you may wan't to change your plans mid-trip. If that happens, then you will kick yourself for pre-booking. almost 5 years ago
