Where to retire?

over 5 years ago about Thailand

We want to retire to an island in Southern Thailand. Quiet, a good expat, tourist, Thai mix, nightlife but not crazy like Pattaya or Phuket or even Koh Samui. Anyone travelled extensively and/or been to the perfect spot?
Thank you for any suggestions.

I think Chiang Mai is a great spot. Lovely people and great food. I did not enjoy Phuket. Koh Samui is nice provided you stay away from the town centre. Good luck with the retirement. Wish I was that age, with money! over 5 years ago

Have you looked at Koh Lanta?

Another one worth a look is Koh Phangan up near Ranong. over 5 years ago

I'd also go for Koh Lanta. Good mix of great beaches, not over run by tourists and good expat population that work well with locals. about 5 years ago

All are good choices but don't forget to consider Koh Chang. It's considered the overall most beautiful island for natural beauty that has all the facilities you want for your dream vacation!! about 5 years ago
