Hello, Me and my boyfriend are planning on going traveling starting from around august 2013 for roughly 6 months. We are looking at best route through india burma nepal laos vietnam cambodia thailand. We thought it may be best to start in India and end in thai, however we were wanting to spend new years in thailand. Can anybody offer any advice which times/routes/cost effective way of doing a route which involves these countries?
Thankyou in advance :)

Hi Bonita, Wow. Big adventure. (wish it was me!)

I'd suggest that you make a plan to start in the place you MOST want to see and then a rough idea of what would come next. But be prepared to let the journey take shape as it happens. 6 months isn't actually very long to go to all those countries you list if you want to travel slowly/locally.

I spent 6 weeks in Vietnam alone and constantly met people coming out of Laos saying it was their favourite place. It took me another 4 years before I could get back to Laos because I hadn't anticipated wanting to change direction.

Also, I think you'd find India/Nepal fit together and Burma/Thai/Laos/Vietnam/Cambodia fit together and travel within those areas easy. To link SE Asia to India would involve a flight. Not a problem, nor even that expensive, but almost a different trip.

there's a few other people who've asked similar questions about travel routes across Asia. Check out these questions that have some great answers/tips: http://bit.ly/T4zW4g, http://bit.ly/Wk0wJY, http://bit.ly/VMhgTR, http://bit.ly/ZdOH9R.
