You really only need to spend several days in Bangkok. It's just a big, noisy, and somewhat dirty city. You can very easily conquer both Phuket and Koh Phangan with the amount of time you allowed yourself. In Phuket, the party scene is Patong, but the most beautiful area is Kata Beach. You will really only need to spend a couple of days at Full Moon Party, so you will have plenty of time to spend at many other places. Try Koh Tao, the next island over, for fantastic diving and single mingeling. As far as being black, no problem with fellow world travelers, but Thai locals might call you King Kong, (I seen this happen) Really know big deal though. about 6 years ago

Not that common and it depends what ure after....If it's beaches then Phukets got a few nice ones but many are very tourisiy, crowded and developed. Things to do- Phuket might have more range.....beauty- Phangan. Full Moon Party can be madness but the nights b4 also can be better if you are into parties. about 6 years ago

Russel, we recently travelled to the Full Moon Party to assess the safety situation. Our video documentary is on YouTube here:

It is relatively safe as long as you don't do anything stupid.

If you're looking just to party in Thailand the main thing us that you plan your trip around the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan because that pretty much dictates what islands are busy.

Start off on Khoa San Rd in Bangkok for a couple days. Then island hop depending on the full moon date.

    The main party locations are:

Koh Phangan for Full Moon (the rest of time it's dead. I've been here a few weeks already.

People tend to head to Koh Tao after Koh Phangan

Plan Phi Phi Islands at end or beginning it's usually happening because it draws alot of people on holiday

Other places to see that aren't focused on partying but very good:
    Chang Mai for trekking
    Pai in the north
    Kanchanaburi
    Sukothai
    Ayutthaya
    Krabi and Railey beach

If you're not interested in culture just a good time, go tubing in Laos in addition to islands. about 6 years ago
