I'm planning a 2 months trip to SE Asia. I will be traveling to China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Cambodia. For 2 weeks, I will be in Bangkok and Siem Reap. As these 2 countries are on the travel advisories list, I haven't been able to find an insurance company to provide coverage during out time there. Anyone know of an insurance company that will cover both Thailand and Cambodia? I'm from Canada.
I can get coverage for China, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Jac, I work for WorldNomads.com, and I see you're a member too. Among all the really great stuff we provide travellers (journals, travel tips, etc) we also sell travel insurance. It's a product designed exactly for travellers like yourself. Click on the INSURANCE sub-heading or the HOME sub-heading at the top of the page.
I'm the travel safety guy at WorldNomads NOT the insurance person (and you need to speak to someone properly authorised to discuss travel insurance), but from a safety perspective I can't see any reason why ANY insurer would refuse you cover for Thailand and Cambodia! The "travel advisories list" of Canada's Foreign Affairs department for Thailand and Cambodia would not necessarily prevent you from being offered cover. The level of the advice is the second lowest at "exercise a high degree of caution". It's generally only when the top level "avoid all travel" comes into play that insurers would baulk at offering cover.
Obviously you may have special circumstances which have prevented you from being offered cover, such as a pre-existing medical condition, in which case you should call us and discuss your options. The number for Canada is 1-866-878-0191.
