Expect to be very wet for several days, some people love Songkran others hate it. The most dangerous part is being on the roads, last years festival saw nearly 300 people killed on Thai roads and 3000 injured. Songkran is like a week of new years eve's on steroids ! Anyway if you need a cheap Thai hotel i get mine here http://ihotelthai.com/ over 6 years ago

Doesn't matter who you are what you are wearing or what your doing the Thai people will soak you! I was the in 2007 and it was great! I saw this kid throw a bucket of water at some girl on a scooter and she just about crashed, after she cleared her eyes she turned around and smiled! Haha such nice people! over 6 years ago

Thanks...I will be happily wet that few days then. But would the shops and Night Bazaar be open as usual during the Songkran festival? over 6 years ago

Everything was open as usual as I remember. Seriously don't drive a scooter during that festival, my introduction to it was an icy cold bucket while driving, which almost caused me to lose it. Not so great at the time. Fatalities aren't funny, but if you walk and carry a water gun with you, you'll have a good time. over 6 years ago
