Weather wise, January should be good, but since Zanzibar is below the equator, it is also technically their summer. We were there at the end of April this year and while it was the rainy season, we still had a great time. The prices were a little cheaper for accommodation and the beach was empty. We deliberated where to go for the beach and decided on Nungwi. We heard good things about the east coast but is more remote and has less tourism we heard.
