I am going to be traveling for business and I am wondering about the safety of taking taxis in Taipei. I am also wondering about the need for getting a yellow fever vaccination. Can you tell me your best advice? Thank you.

I used to live there many years ago, and at that time, taxis we very safe and a great way to get around. I can't imagine since then the service and safety has deteriorated. In fact, they have just passed a law where passengers must wear a seat belt in the back seat!

Regarding yellow fever vaccine. I didn't see t on the CDC site, but have a look for yourself to make sure: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/taiwan.htm over 9 years ago

The girls are pretty, so you might come back with a case of yellow fever. Taxis are safe, they might circle around a bit to make an extra buck or two. MRT is convenient enough to pretty much get you anywhere worth going in Taipei. over 9 years ago

The nicest taxi company is Taiwan Taxi. They have a big 'i' in a circle on their logo. The trickiest part is making sure your cabbie understands where you want to go, but if you have the address written in Chinese, it should be fine especially since nearly all of them have GPS. Try taking one early in the morning or late at night and enjoy the speed! over 9 years ago
