I'm planning a solo trip from South Korea to Sri Lanka in January to get some warm water surf in before I head back to Canada. Canada's gov website makes Sri Lanka sound pretty wild and dangerous. Any advice for and against going, or advice for when I get there is appreciated. I will make sure to wear tshirts and shorts, and try not to stand out too much, and do my research as I have for other countries around Asia.

If you wear t-shirts and shorts anywhere apart from at the beach you WILL stand out. Horribly. Sri lanka is conservative, though I wouldn't call it wild and dangerous.
My only warning would be regarding men jerking off pretty much anywhere and at any time of the day. It's a chronic problem in Sri Lanka, particularly on the tourist beach strips. Beware of walking alone on isolated beaches.
But away from the tourist places people are friendly, and mostly honest. 3 months ago

It's no problem. Sri Lanka is amazing. I found the people to be lovely. You'll be fine. There are plenty of tourists and it is a developed. No reason to worry. Have fun!

And the trains are really fun there :) 3 months ago
