Truly local with no beer or booze? $2-5 USD per person is plenty except in very touristed locations. But if you want to endulge beyond local rice and curry joints, be conservative and budget $7-10 per person a day. Other things in Sri Lanka can be pricy like accommodations and transport and non local rice and curry places, but if you truly stay local with meals , my latter price point is WAY high. almost 8 years ago

I agree with Dawn. Local food is lovely and cheap. If you dine at a beachside restaurant expect to pay more and often the food is more western eg curry isn't as spicy. Kandy was incredibly cheap for food! almost 8 years ago
