Just don't know if it's worth it to spend the money on the Tica bus or is it easy enough to do on our own.

The chicken buses are so easy to jump on, jump off and over the boarder. I travelled from Granada, San Juan Del Sur to Monteverde all on chicken buses. you will most likely have to stay in Nicoya for a night cause of connecting buses depending wot time you arrive. You could most likely catch a chicken bus from Nicoya to Granada as well. Nicoya is a happening town till 8pm, everyone seems to disappear for dinner. i was also there on a monday so, maybe that had some thing to do with it. if you arrive at San Lukas you'll have to catch the boat across the river to Puntarenas for accommodation (its only $2 rtn). It is WAY cheaper to use the chicken buses but a little more walking around from bus terminal to bus terminal. Depending what way you want to go as well, you could catch both buses from Puntarenas up north.
If you catch the chicken bus make sure you go to San Juan Del Sur. Its a super cool place for surfing and partying. the Tica bus dosent stop there unfortunately but try and get there. stay either at the naked tiger or Pacha mamas.
Hope this give you a rough guide on wot to do. good luck over 9 years ago
