My father and I will be arriving on July 1st. We are renting a car starting in Barcelona and driving all around the West of Europe, hoping into France, Holland, maybe Belgium, maybe Germany, then into Italy and back to Barcelona by july 17th.

We're from Canada and budget traveling. We love jazz, live music, and off the beaten path. Can anyone suggest nice places to visit in the nature, maybe lakes, rivers, mountains, little mom and pop eateries, cobble stone roads, etc? We're open to any ideas.

Also what are the rules for driving in this part of Europe?
Can you recommend good roads/routes to take?

Where do you recommend is a good route to take from Barcelona around the west countries and back in 2 weeks? We want to experience it all, but mostly the "authentic" friendly, parts. We aren't so interested in touristy sites as much as the food, weather, nature and culture.

Any ideas will be welcome.
Thank you

Wow! I suggest cutting back on the number of countries. Since you plan to drive, covering that much territory will leave you spending almost the entire time in the car. If you are arriving in Madrid, it would take a very long day of driving to get to Paris. From Paris to Brussels is basically a day and this would be on the major highways, not off the beaten path. I would suggest Sticking to Spain and France for such a short trip. over 7 years ago
