I will be visiting my pregnant cousin in Madrid for a week at the end of August. This will be my 2nd time to this amazing city and would like to find some things to do outside of the usual tourist things. Last time I was there we did a segway tour and it was awesome! What are some other fun things we can do in/around Madrid? Keep in mind we wont be going out to the bars and non alcoholic fun is a must.
What are some cool restaurants? any rooftops jaunts with amazing views of the city or really cool history/stories? Any cool festivals the end of August? Any good walking tours or day trips?
WHERE ARE THE HIDDEN HOT SPOTS?
You might be interested in Gaudeamus, a cafe/restaurant with rooftop terrace in lavapies. It is adjoined to what used to be a church but was bombed in the civil war and only a few decades back was turned into a library.
There is also open air cinema on the terraza at Casa Encendida (films Fri & Sat, concert Sun).
For day trips, just the usual: Toledo, Sergovia. over 5 years ago
Go to Bellas Artes Bldg on Gran Via to have coffee in the beautiful cafe. Don't miss the great vermouth in barrels at some really old bars in Chueca which is the gay part of town. Don't miss the Mercado San Anton rooftop restaurant also in Chueca. I go to Madrid twice a year and know it very well. Also, for the best and cheapest breakfast in town, go to the Italian Institute on the Calle Mayor for cappuccino and a croissant a la plancha or for an amazing and cheap lunch. I love to visit the crypt of the Almudena Cathedral for 1 euro admission. it is beautiful. have a drink Pintor Rosales which is right on the park with treelined cafes and bars. I have tons more if you need it! about 5 years ago
