Hiya, I am flying to Rio next week to begin my backpacking trip around SA. I was just wondering on average what your backpack weighs (if you know) once it has everything in it? Mine is a 65l and is at 12kg (approx 26lbs). This is my first backpacking trip so was wondering if this seems reasonable? I have gone through everything over and over to see what I can leave behind but I will use or wear everything I have packed. I will also have my day bag with me.

I usually travel with a 60L and about 10 kgs. Backpacking for 1-2 months, local buses, bit of walking/trekking etc. and it's never been an issue. That being said, the less you can get away with the more comfortable you will be! about 4 years ago

Hi - the question is what you can carry comfortably. I think 12 kg is about right without feeling like a pack horse :o)
Remember you can always buy t-shirts along the way if need be. Get some gear like the shorts/pants combo from the outdoor stores...soft shirts that you can dress up if needed and wear everyday. Soft long cardigans vs jackets....things that pack lightly and are lightweight. Layers work best. Enjoy!!! about 4 years ago
