It's not Jo'burg, thankfully, but there are problem areas. Lots of ex-pat sites with full lists, including this one: http://www.expatcapetown.com/cape-town-housing.html
I have a couple of friends in Cape Town and have visited, but not lived there, so my experience is limited. The city bowl is a bit dodgy after dark. But I felt very safe and comfortable in Camps Bay..... I think they call it the Atlantic Coast area.... only 15 minutes from Cape Town CBD. There are other parts which are regarded as safe. Safe is a relative thing in Sth Africa... the level of home security is quite high and takes some getting used to. over 9 years ago

I live in Cape town and Anywhere in the Cbd is pretty safe. Try tamboerskloof, gardens, or Atlantic seaboard for great views. Try to avoid staying in woodstock or saltriver though. Try www.capetownmagazine.co.za for some ideas on what to do in and around town. over 9 years ago
