What is the best way to get a SIM card or data in South Africa?
I am travelling to the Kalahari in a few weeks and will have limited wifi access. What are the options for Data/getting a SIM card over there? Very little need but just want something to send a few SMSes or whatsapp to family in UK and Singapore.

I got a Vodacom sim card when I travelled to South Africa last summer and the coverage was good. I am not sure about the Kalahari but you can check out the coverage map http://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/coverage-map about 3 years ago

I got my SIM card at the airport. It is very easy to get. I also got the Vodacom sim card. Just MAKE SURE it works before you leave the airport. They operators often don't get it inputed into the computer correctly and you don't have your data working. You can then go to any Vodacom shop anywhere to "top up" or for help. over 1 year ago
