We expect to rent a car and take trips for a day or a few days. Hope to rent a place to stay.

It is quite dependent on your budget. The city centre is fantastic due to its close proximity to everything however it can be quite expensive. There are several outlying areas that can be more convenient, i.e. Stellenbosch - close to the winelands, Blaauwberg - close to the beaches and usually great views of Table Mountain and then Muizenberg - close to Cape Town but "over-the-mountain". Take a look at airbnb.com for some places to stay at and within your price range. Just keep in mind that January will still be peak season, so booking in advance would be advisable. over 5 years ago

I stayed in an area called Greenpoint for 2 months, then i stayed in Sea Point (next to green point) for another 3 months.. It is close to the City center (close by food, but also easy by bus) It is safe here and really beautifull (also less tourists > less expensive) almost 5 years ago
