Can I take school supplies and soccer balls into South Africa to donate for free or do I have to pay duty?
You should not be asked to pay tax for this when coming into South Africa, however if you are questioned (highly unlikely) then just make sure to have the name and contact number of the organisation you are planning on donating to. I would highly recommend going through an organisation as it can cause chaos in communities if you just wander in handing out free stuff and the bonus is that local organisations know their communities well and the correct people to give donations to and who needs the donations you supply the most, including fair dispersal of your donations. If you don't have an organisation I can give you the names of a few around South Africa that I know to be genuine.
