Want to do a gorilla trek in Rwanda and was hoping someone here might have done so and can offer some advice on tour operators, lodging near park headquarters, tipping, etc.
I know the permit is $750 and the best chance of getting one is through a tour operator as they buy them up, but I'm not sure how much of their involvement beyond that is required.

We just returned from an African tour, which included a gorilla trek in Volcanoes national park. Our tour was coordinated through a local (Calgary, Canada) African tour consultant, Lion Dog Safaris; however, he utilizes internal African companies for the various portions of your tour. For our gorilla trek, he used Amahoro Tours, out of Kigali. We spent one night at the Step Town hotel In Kigali. Then, from Kigali it's about a 3 hour drive to Musanze, where we overnighted at the Home Inn, before heading out for an early morning (6:30 am) 1 hr drive to the park. The gorilla trek itself was "amazing"; I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's certainly a once in a lifetime experience. over 7 years ago
