I can tell you the region remains on the DO NOT TRAVEL lists of most foreign governments (USA and Australia included) because of the high safety risk. This has consequences in terms of travel insurance, and if you decide to go to this region despite those warnings it is very unlikely you will be covered. If there is a pressing need to travel to this region you should talk to your insurer. The region is sometimes closed to visitors at short notice too, so planning may be difficult. Sorry, but I don't have anything from on the ground there - anyone else?
