It's more than 1200km. Depend on the time you have, travel by road is 10x more than by air. over 6 years ago

Go by plane. It takes about 2 hours to Jeddah and then either by road or new rail link to Makkah. The easiest is via Saudi Airlines. By car, it's a long old road, Doha to Riyadh and then on to Jeddah, it's at least 16-20hours and can be dangerous. Let the plane take the strain! over 6 years ago

Travelling by car is harder than the plane but its safier because of the loggage problems at the airport & the tickets...etc about 6 years ago

I agree with Krisna with regards to the distance. Plane is the way to go but there are no direct flights to Mecca. The nearest city to fly in will be Jeddah. If you're thinking of driving, my advice is to go to the Saudi embassy and obtain your entry visa and some other documents e.g. car insurance in Saudi which will be required to present to the guys at the border. The real pain is the border, you'll go through checks as a normal procedure and many questions and if you're lucky, it'll take you less than hour to go through all that. about 6 years ago
