Island (which I am told is in Suargao del Nord province), also Palawan, Bohol, Oslob and Puerto Princesa in the Philippines.

Although DFAT's travel smart site colours Siargo Island yellow (code for exercise high caution) the written warnings on the Philippines page give the more dangerous warning "reconsider the need to travel" for the Suargao del Nord province and Palawan. What would you advise your 21-year-old daughter and boyfriend and do you believe Muslim separatist activity is on the increase following the ISIS anniversary and last week's shootings in Tunisia and other tourist areas.

We've lived in the Philippines for 4 years now and have travelled extensively here with 3 blond daughters and never had a problem. Suargao and Siargao are fine - no problems and are very beautiful. The surfing is fantastic and there is a vibrant community there - no separatist activity at all. Much further down south like Zamboanga probably not recommended - but where they will be going it will be wonderful. Hope it helps. over 5 years ago
