Piura is regarded as a HIGH RISK area for Malaria. While anti-malarial tablets are good, be aware that in February peru declared a RED ALERT for Dengue Fever. DF is also spread by mosquito bite, so to lessen your chances of getting either (or both) always cover up and use DEET insect repellent.
