I can get sol at airport, but don't want to carry a lot of cash. Travel from Lima to Cuzco, to macchu Picchu.

    Visa & MasterCard should be OK for Inca Trail area but in the eastern part of Peru, some posadas in Amazonia don't accept MasterCard. over 6 years ago

    Though many places will claim to accept cards, the reality is that often times (outside of the cities) the machines won't work. Also, they'll want to see ID every time you make a transaction with a card.

    I've been living and travelling around Peru for the last nine months, and it's really not as dangerous and mugging-prone as everyone seems to think. However, obviously up you should take precautions.

    If you're sensible, and plan ahead, then you can take cash out at machines and not have to worry. If your bank doesn't offer a decent way to withdraw money abroad, then try the wealth of other options - pre-paid cards, travellers cheques, etc... over 6 years ago
