Christmas and new years in Peru

over 7 years ago about Peru

I'm thinking of being in Peru for Christmas and new years and do the inca trek early in the new year, where should I stay?? Where are the best places to be over that time?

Visiting Peru anytime is a wonderful idea and memorable place. If you are planning to hike the Inca Trail, you should book very soon because the operator will have to get your permit ASAP. The last week December from 24-31 is already sold out. But there are still spaces on Jan 1 and after.

Machu Picchu is open every day of the year, but closes at 5 pm daily. It will not be possible to hike the Inca Trail and be in Machu Picchu for New Years because the permits are sold out for those dates. But you could take the train to Machu Picch provided there are train tickets available for those dates.
Hotels are already getting full so you should make reservations very soon. In Cusco, try Amaru I for basic 3* comfort. Or Andenes al Cielo. In Ollantaytambo we like Tunupa Lodge and El Sauce Hostal. In Aguas Calientes, we use Killa Inn (3*) or Andina Luxury for (4*)

We are running a special llama trek over the holidays. You visit Machu Picchu New Year's Day. We are organizing a traditional dinner and offering with a shaman for New Year's Eve in Ollantaytambo.
