Jucy is pretty good. We hired a car there for 2 days on the North Island and it was very cheap and a great car.
My mum, sister and wife hired a car through them on the South Island and said they loved it too.

I used Avis last month - booked online and picked up at the airport.
Make sure you get a comfortable car and preferrably something with a bit of power as all the roads in New Zealand are windy and hilly! over 11 years ago -
I would actually disagree with you there Ian. Its amazing how a cheap little Japanese buzz box can perform on windy, muddy and perilous New Zealand mountain roads. Agree Niko? over 11 years ago

I'd definitely go with a quality rental car for the South Island. Nothing worse than breaking down on one of the passes.
Avis and Budget have quality cars and both have pickup/drop off locations all around the south island. We (Air NZ) have a site where you can compare both brands (no booking fee too) : http://carrental.com/RentCar/airnewzealand/index.html over 10 years agoAnswered by Lewis Billinghurst viaTravellr.com

Depends on where you're flying to and from. Not all companies do pickups and drop-offs in all locations.
For an economical company which is good quality and has great customer service, try Jucy rentals.
If you've got a little more of a budget, en Avis, budget, Hertz and europcar are all standard. over 9 years agoAnswered by Kerry Tate viaWorldNomads.com
