Nothing beats Wellington on a fine day! You can have a look at www.doc.govt.nz for information about the nature and outdoors to be enjoyed in the area. Zealandia, Red rocks, skyline ridge, Makara mountainbike park (and bikes for rent at mudbikes, Karori), the Rimutaka incline rail track, Kapiti island, going over to Martinborough or a day on the beach in Palliser bay. An overnight stay on Somes island (tuatara's and blue pinguins) is my favorite! over 7 years ago

Lots to do from Wgtn, head over the hills for an hour to the lovely wineries area of Martinborough or go junk/antique shopping in nearby Greytown. Or head up the coast for an hour and hit the long sandy beaches of the Kapiti Coast eg Waikanae. Or drive 20 mins or catch the habour ferry to the lovely seaside subsurb of Eastborne on the other side of the habour and do a great seaside walk with fab coffee along the way. If you have more time you can do a ferry crossing over to the top of the south island to Picton (3 hours) and check out the amazing scenery on the way. Enjoy your stay ... over 7 years ago
