A group of us are going to Queenstown in July, one of my friends is a really good snowboarder and used to teach overseas, and said he'd be keen to show a few of us the basics. Where is easiest to get to from Queenstown, where can we rent gear for cheap, and what's the snow like during this time?

Thanks in advance!

    Hey Milly,

There are two main ranges, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables. When we went we used a Queestown superpass (http://www.skiexpress.com.au/shop/queenstown-superpass-adult/) which was the cheapest option, also good because days are flexible and non-consecutive (I'd double check this/prices as it's been 2 years).

The whole town will be in snow-mode and there's a gear shop or two there where you can rent per day, can't remember prices but wasn't crazy $$. I'm fairly sure all accommodation providers will be able to offer a free shuttle to either range, the Remarkables are a bit further away but their green run is much longer (I was a beginner and preferred them > Coronet).

Snow was off and on, it's a bit rainy at that time so that's your main concern, I think out of the 5 days we were there 1 of them we called off due to weather.

    Hope that helps!
