Good ski resorts on North Island of New Zealand in August?
I'm looking to go skiing in August for a weekend in New Zealand. There are some cheap flight to Auckland (from Sydney) so am wondering about going to Turoa or Whakapapa. Will there be snow in late August, and is there good night life here? Thanks!

To be honest - the best places to ski in August (and they have great snow now) are Queenstown (lots of choice) or Christchurch (Mt Hutt).
August is still OK for snow... and if you are keen on North Island you can go Sydney to Rotorua which is even closer. The party town near the snow is Ohakune. over 10 years agoAnswered by Ed Hayes viaTravellr.com

Hi there,
We are a skydiving operation in Wanaka which is in the south island and as such we do not really know a lot about the ski conditions in the north island. Sorry that I can not be of more assistance, perhaps a north island information center may be more help.
Hope you find what you are looking for, NZ is a wonderful place with lots to offer in every respect.
Kind regards,

Thanks for the advice everyone! Would love to get down to Queenstown but the flights are so expensive in August, whereas flights to Auckland are half the price.. Ohakune sounds like a great town! over 10 years ago

Investigate mt. Ruapehu. I went there in June. It was a lot of fun . If you want a real treat while there, stay at powder horn lodge just 'down the road ' in okahune . over 9 years ago
