For a hotel that is central - really CENTRAL - doubtless 3+ stars and rather silent you should be prepared to pay in the summer. A lot of "3 stars" in Amsterdam should rather be considered "2.5 stars" or even "2 stars" and never be surprised if "central" means that "you are able to walk to city center within 45 minutes - if you are in a hurry"!

I'll recommend Ambassade (phone +31-205-550-222) which I consider to be REALLY central from a tourist's view, and REALLY "3+/4 star". High level of service, quiet (considered that you are in large town) and normally canal view + the best breakfast in Amsterdam don't make life worse. Even a classic room here will be absolutely fine, but a de luxe room will of course be larger and de luxe rooms are the only rooms that always have canal view. almost 4 years ago
