I will be staying for a few days in August. What about going on Frisian Islands? Which is the most beautiful (and less crowded?) Thank you!

A visit to one of the Western Frisian Islands(the Northern Islands belong to Germany...) can absolutely be' recommended. May I suggest Vlieland? 41 sq km, 1100-1200 inhabitants, beautiful, peaceful AND nearly car-free (just some cars permitted locals). Ferry MF Flieland from Harlingen, nomally about 2 pm, return about 11 am, travel time 90-100 minutes. (Please check details, phone +31-900-363-5736.) About 65 EUR/100 USD for return ticket, adult + bicycle. Hourly Arriva-train from Leeuwarden to Harlingen Haven (harbour).

Accomodation? Camping Stortemelk, phone +31-562-451-225. Bring your own tent or rent a prepaired two bedroom (four persons) Cabanon-safaritent. Use your sleeping bag or pre-book bedsheets from "t servicepunt", phone +31-562-453-360 (2pm-5pm GMT+2)

It should alsom be considered making av visit to Terschelling, a more burstling island with about 10000 inhabitants. MF Vlieland makes a daily trip, phone +31-900-63-5736 for details). Buren hotel is recommended, phone +31-562-442-226 for details. Double/twin-bedded rooms 110-140 EUR/160-200 USD/night. No camping/hostel.

And don't forget Harlingen (monuments, old warehouse "Blauwe Hand "or "Blue Hand" and lighthouse) and Groningen (student city, cartoon museeum, "Gold office", Martini tower - and canoe tour around the city centre, phone +31-881-198-860). Nice budget place to stay in Groningen is University Hotel, a part of the University (phone 0031-503-113-424), campsite Stadspark suitable when having a tent (phone +31-505-251-624).
