I'm going to Amsterdam, I just realized our hotel is closer to the red light district than we expected will this be a problem?
I agree. Staying near the red light district means that you're in the centre of everything and it makes it much easier to see the city. The red light district is mainly a tourist attraction now so the area is very tame. Worst case scenario, you accidentally see some girls in lingerie. almost 7 years ago
thanks so much that puts my mind at ease! now i can't wait for my trip almost 7 years agoAnswered by jojo via WorldNomads.com
Not at all. The red light district of Amsterdam is a touristy area. In fact, you should visit it. They even have customized tours; tourists can even get themselves photographed in the infamous windows wearing garish makeup and colourful wigs! Since prostitution is legal and regulated in Amsterdam, the industry is much less shady than its counterparts in other countries.
And yes, you have the advantage of being in a central location in the city, and will therefore have easy access to major tourist attractions. over 6 years ago
All the answers above a great, in my experience the Red Light District has distinct boundaries and you can be 1 or 2 blocks away and it's a completely different feel. As long as you're not above a nightclub it'll be fine.
here're some more tips

yeah its within very restricted boundaries the red light and the bordering neighbourhoods are quite nice mostly, its all central so its an easy area to be in. Only when your right in amongst the district it can be a bit much with the drunken tourists and people trying to make fast money. over 6 years ago
