Urban Adventures have a tour run by locals that take you off the beaten path to discover a more authentic side of Amsterdam. Look them up on Google. almost 9 years ago

Check out this new service called Gidsy - you can book activities organised by 'real people'. I think they mean by local people who live there, not tour guides. There's some really interesting, offbeat things to do in Amsterdam: http://gidsy.com/city/amsterdam/ almost 9 years ago

Harlem haarlemmerweg is a nice place to eat and cheap. Stout on the opposite side a bit more expensive. In the herenstraat there is a really good spanish place.
