I went by myself and joined a tour group and I was fine.
Stay together, avoid the beggar kids and book a good place to stay. I stayed in Kathmandu Guesthouse in Thamel. Great location and good value for money.
If you're going to be doing Everest Base camp go during summit season which starts around late March/April. Don't go too late/early in the year because it is freezing up in the mountains and most of the teahouses are closed.
Flights in and out of Lukla are often delayed because of the weather so don't book your flight back home same or next day! over 7 years ago
Yes it is safe, so long as you don't go to those part of Nepal where even the rest of the Nepalese gets harassed and otherwise.. Ghale Gaon, Annapurna circuit is very safe, but can't say the same in Chitwan, Janakpur and/or other Shady joints.. over 7 years agoAnswered by Abir Gurung via WorldNomads.com
Nepal, like most countries, has its safe and unsafe places - but generally if you are mindful and aware then you should be fine. Be aware of the dangers and you should be fine. Mainly petty crime in Kathmandu and a few scams on the most popular treks, but generally a very safe country to travel through. Going with a few friends will be safer as well.
I disagree re Chitwain - I found this place to be relatively stress free and quite safe for travelling. over 7 years ago
The best times to go are in April or October. The winter is too cold and the summer is too wet, especially for trekking. The only real dangers are physical (such as falling off of a mountain), but stick to the trail and you'll be fine and have an amazing time. This is one of the most amazing countries I've ever visited. over 7 years ago
