A group of 4 of us are heading to Namibia for 2 weeks on a self-drive trip. What are the highlights that can be seen in this time?

One of the highlights on my road-trip to Namibia was visiting the Fish River Canyon - the second largest canyon in the world. Absolutely stunning. Depending on how far you plan on travelling into Namiba, you should try and head towards Sossusvlei, in the Namib Desert (the oldest desert in the world). Here there are massive sand dunes, and is home to some of the largest dunes in the world (exceeding 300m in height).

There are actually so many things to see in Namibia, from white-water rafting on the Orange River, fishing off the Skeleton coast, to going on game drives in the Etosha National Park. Believe me, the list goes on and on. Either way you are in for a great trip, enjoy! about 10 years ago

Very good advice from Thea. The best advise I can possibly give you is not to try and do too much in too little time. Distances are vast and travelling times long. Rather than spend the whole day in the car try and travel to a worthwhile destination and then stay over for day so you can truly experience it. An rough itinerary that allows you to take in many of the sites is Windhoek, Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Brandberg, Palmwag, Etosha, Waterberg, Gobabis, Windhoek.

Ask away if you have any other questions on the specific locations or places to stay. almost 10 years ago

Camp as much as possible, there are very comfortable indwell appointed campgrounds and of plenty of rough camping opportunities.
Epupa Falls is a beautiful place, Khoudom reserve is wild and uncrowded; the petroglyphs are amazing; whatever you do, spend a few days at the Namib dunes. Look into the Linyanti marsh - we had the whole place to place to ourselves but were rough camping and that was a few years ago. over 9 years ago

Would any of you recommend ballooning over the dunes? Looks gorgeous, but $500 US / person makes me think twice ..... Thanks for advice! almost 9 years ago

Sossusvlei (especially dead vlei) is a total winner. Swakop is great too and of course etosha. Basically Namibia is awesome no matter where you go. almost 9 years ago
