Botswana may be a bit tough for New Year's. Although there should be a lot of backpackers around Maun, which is the tourist town before the Okavango.

If you are in Namibia, obviously Windhoek will have something going on. Most backpackers pass through Cardboard Box backpackers - which is a great little place. Will have a party there for sure, or at least a group of people who will know where one is.

Not sure on Mozambique, but if you head towards the coast where most backpackers go, I'm sure you find something great. Southern Africa always has plenty of travellers so no doubt it won't be hard to find some action.

be careful: Dec-Jan in these countries are rainy season!
Definitively avoid Mozambique. Namibia has mostly unpaved roads, not easy to drive with the mud. Botswana it dry in the South, but there are few accommodations and very expensive.
In Dec and Jan, the best destinations in Eastern and Southern Africa are Kenya and Tanzania. :-) over 3 years ago
