A friend is thinking about moving to a community near Lake Chapala. Would like to know the real deal about living there as an expatriate.

I understand there are about 50,000 Americans living there. It is a favorite for retired people as the cost is affordable. over 8 years ago

Is it Ajijic? Place is nice, closest to the airport than Guadalajara itself, really quiet and even though it has all kind of services now including a WalMart store its streets feel very mexican-small-town like and it community it's very friendly. over 8 years ago

Moved here from Chicago just over a year ago. Wonderful weather, on the largest lake in Mexico, with an amazing infrastructure for ex pats. Probably more Canadians than Americans....with quite a few Europeans thrown in the ex pat retiree mix. Ajijic village is quite a charming place that thoroughly caters to the ex pats, and the town of Chapala retains a strong thriving mexican community flavor.... almost 7 years ago
