Mrs Ramos, you needn't be too concerned about safety in Cancun. The resort area is not subject to the narco-crime and violence that's plaguing some parts of Mexico. Take the usual precautions against petty crime and avoid Cancun city after dark (stay in the resort area) and you'll be fine.

cancun is perfectly safe .They have a VERY vested interest in keeping tourists safe. I just returned from cancun , and stayed at the all new Westin Lagunamar Resort. IT is all villas, w/d in all units , dishwasher, jacuzzi tubs, BBQ pits around property , excellent staff ( better than Ritz Carlton) and what I really thought was cool is that your door key is a prox card that you just pass in front of you door and your door opens..Sorta like in hospitals. Also it is across the street from the most upscale shopping in Cancun..LV...Gucci ect. Hope this info helps . over 7 years ago

If you want to stay away of the noise of Cancun, but nearby, to take a ride, you can enjoy Playa Mujeres. It's 20 mins north from downtown. White sandy beaches, golf course, and you can choose from Excellence Resort Playa Mujeres, if you want a 5 star all inclusive resort, or La Amada, a small boutique hotel on the beach. I've stayed at the second one, which has an exclusive spa and great gourmet restaurantes!! each suite has its own pool...or you can use the big one...Very calm, very safe...It was really a relaxing experience. Hope you can visit it over 7 years ago
