    Frank, the diving off the southern end of Cozumel is on reefs, so it is quite shallow diving. The area is quite protected too, so it's a good place for a novice diver. The island is so popular with scuba divers that there are dozens of dive companies.
    Sign up with one of them, they'll not only know the best places and times to go diving, they'll help you with safety as you build experience and confidence
    I'm sure it's been drummed into you, but safety is the number one aspect of diving.

    Cozumel is an excellent place for a novice diver (it was my first trip after getting my license) Make sure you don't go with a dive operator just because they're cheap ... Make sure they enforce good safety rules, have a good ratio of guides to guests, and PADI and SSI certification are good things to watch out for. Get your dive master to show you the Christmas tree worms! over 6 years ago
